I have always been interested in learning Arabic. Well, at least as long as I knew that the language existed. I think the appeal is that it is so different from the languages that I know currently; Spanish, English and German.
You read the script from right to left. You start reading a book on what westerners would consider to be the last page. The western world's printed languages show each letter and each word as disconnected. The Arabic script is almost like cursive writing and appears so connected and flowing.
It appears that the script could be so much more artistically expressed as opposed to that of the Latin alphabet. Now that I think about it they both could be written to express creativity.
I have tried to get a general idea of how the Arabic language is structured. For these things I usually check out wikipedia's entry on the subject to get a good start and find a few good links.
There is also a beginner Arabic class at the local university beginning on 19 of March, 2008 that I will be applying to and hopeing that enough other people will sign up for also so as to where there is enough students to even have the class.
I am excited about the endeavor. I will of course document it here on this web site.
