12 Weeks Heartbeat

We had a doctor’s appointment yesterday. They dump a lot of of information on you at the beginning. They also ask a lot of questions. Questions that you really don’t need to answer yet like who your pediatrician will be. I kept wanting to answer “hey, I have just been trying to keep food down for the last 6 weeks”.

They definitely have a system and a procedure in place and they can’t wait to quickly make you a part of it and get you inline with everyone else. There was not a lot of talk about my options but I was expecting that. It totally sounded like if you wanted to avoid an epidural you would need to hire a Doula.

They did provide us a copy of the standard “What to Expect When you are Expecting” book which has every possible symptom and anything that could ever go wrong in pregnancy. I can totally see how this book scares the crap out of some people. I have been reading it to scare myself while watching Lost season 4 via Netflix. Nothing from the books shows up in my dreams and I keep having Lost-ish themes in my dreams. I suspect I am taking Lost more seriously than the pregnancy book.

Last weekend we did manage a little trip to Mammoth Cave. My husband had never been and he was really amazed and excited. To date they have mapped like 367 miles and have not found the end. There are some pictures on my photo site

A friend of ours, Kara, has decided that even though we are moving in 2 weeks she has to make sure we have a baby shower. It is really nice and cool of her to make herself in charge of this and it was not on our to do list before to move to a place where we know no one. With all to shenanigans that happen in the moving, changing apartments, jobs, etc any sort of baby shower was probably not going to happen for us.

Oh yea and did I mention that at our doctors appointment we WERE ABLE TO HEAR THE HEARTBEAT OF OUR BABY!!!!

It probably depends on the hospital where you deliver. When I had mine, they were very accommodating as far as whether or not (or when) I wanted the epi, whether or not to give my son formula (I had emergency surgery immediately after he was born) and how much I wanted him in the room with me. I suspect other hospitals might not be as flexible.
