I have got to try this PdaNet program that allows tethering on the G1.  I have read about it in the Android Community Forums.

Best Twitter App for the G1? Twidroid?

March 11th, 2009

I have been testing various twitter apps on the G1 and I really can’t decide which is the ultimate.  I do find myself using Twidroid the most frequently. The UI is light sky blue and I think that makes it seem to be less harsh on the eyes.  I also love the cute icon.  The little blue man figure with an arm raised.  It does seem to have all of the features I use like allowing direct messaging, search for people, easily adding people to follow, organizing the @ replies.  The UI font and icons are large enough to view but not so large that I feel as if it were made for a 40 year old who won’t put their reading glasses on.  I also have not any any issues with the app crashing or requesting a force close as some of the other apps do.  Below are the apps I have been testing along with their size.  For now my favorite is Twidroid but I still feel more testing is needed.

  • AndTweet 320 KB
  • aTweeter 192 KB
  • nanoTweeter 532 KB
  • Twidroid 824 KB
  • Twitili 2 MB (2048 KB)
  • TwitterRide 144 KB
  • Twittoo 3 MB (3072 KB)

P and O Tracker for the G1

February 23rd, 2009

I found a simple app that I surprised myself and fell in love with.  If you are a single guy it is not for you but if you are a female or are a couple interested in ovulation this app is wonderful.  The P and O Tracker tracks periods and ovulation.

Like most women I can never quite remember when my last period was and I am always surprised when it arrives.  Thus I would never be able to guesstimate ovulation times in order to positively affect pregnancy.  This app has solved my problems and made me feel comfortable wearing white pants.

On the first day of your menstrual flow you open the applications and there is a big white button that reads “Add Period”.  You tap on this button on the screen and add the date of the first day of your menstrual period.  It will then estimate accurately when your ovulation is so you can try to get pregnant and it will provide you with the date of you next menstrual flow so you know when it is arriving.  The first few periods you add the application is estimating based on a 28 day cycle but with the more periods you enter it will estimate based on your personal cycle.

It is a simple but very useful app if you are a woman or a couple trying to get pregnant.

Which Browser Is Best for The G1

February 19th, 2009

One of the first things I did when I received my new G1 phone was go visit some of my favorite web sites.  The included default browser does show the full internet site as opposed to what some of the blackberry browsers do by not rendering external css sheets or only giving you a portion of the site.  I was in awe viewing the web so neatly on my G1.

When you have the keyboard closed the site presents longways and when you open the keyboard which you would also tilt the phone sidways for, it presents sideways as automatically adjusting to your orientation.  One drawback I noticed is that it seemed to take a while to load any graphic or photo intensive page.  Don’t worrry though it is not as slow as dial up.

My previous phone was a Samsung Blackjack version 1 running windows mobile 5.  I loved the phone’s hardware but I really disliked windows mobile, almost as much as I dislike windows operating system.  I really like the Opera Mini browser that I had on my Blackjack so I looked for it in the Android Apps Market.  Lucky me I found it, installed it and quickly got it up and running.

The default browser does allow for you to have many windows open at the same time and allows for easy switching back and for between them but it can’t compete with the speed of Opera Mini.  I know browsers have evolved a great deal since the beginning but I still prefer the fastest browser over all those options and add ons.  I just want to see the internet page as true to what the html or php etc code as it can be.

I got the new G1 Google Android HTC Smartphone!
